The next big PvP idea...
ok so, picture this. A huge arena, like im talking big big big with give or take 5 teams of 8 or so (40 players). the teams are randomly put together somewhat like in RA but with the concept of say Aspenwood or Jade Quarry where a goal needs to be accomplished. now, here is the intresting part, the battles will hopefully take quite some time, roughly an hour. a lot of the time people won't stay the whole time, maybe something comes up, or they just wanted to be in for awhile or so and not the entire match. so, naturally they will leave, well why not cycle in a player waiting to get in? the game continues on and a new player is cycled in to the game while its still going on. to eliminate leachers as im sure there will be many, a 2minute timer in which they dont move auto kicks them from the game. i think this would be a good idea for people who just wana kill stuff in the masses.
just a new idea for the next campaign
::the drawbacks::
-after another campaign is released, it will be difficult to fill a 40 player game
-might have some bandwidth issues on ANet servers
-players computers might have trouble fitting in 40 players without locking up lag wise
just an idea i thought up while sitting in my guild hall. good idea? bad? critique away

I've been thinking similarly for a while. I had the idea for a Luxon/Kurzick kinda battle again, but make it endless, constantly cycling new players in, or stopping them when one team has too many players. The current Faction Line system is far from perfect, so perhaps let this battle affect the line, like if the Luxons push the Kurzicks far enough back, the line moves accordingly. Or, if the battle isn't endless, then let each battle affect the next, Kurzicks win, then the next map is in Luxon territory, again, the line moves accordingly.

It started getting bad when you said it was random. Objectives with random people is horrible. It's hard to communicate and you also have to occassional total moron who can't figure how to wear armor.
Also, I don't think a lot of people would join because of the length.

There is a time to buy a new PC (no offense) and if you have THAT much lag, you can also chose to don't play in the arena

yes but i dont want to force people to buy a new computer just to enjoy a part of the game they are more then entitled to. maybe take the teams down to 5 groups of 6 (30 players). i dunno, the idea has a bit of work to be done for it to appeal to the masses, and the masses also includes ANet, because you cant enjoy something like this if they have bandwidth issues, or the people trying to play have lag issues.
im sure there is a way to work around the problem without telling people to buy a new computer.

Lately from browzing Fansite to Fansite I have seen this same idea about massive Arenas being introduced in the next chapter or the near future. Truely this could be done such as Alliance battling is, but yet it'd be more of a team based attack fest.
So to elaborate on this idea, ask yourself this: What objectives would be in place for a team to come out the victor? Would faction be awarded? In what area would the players group to do such a thing? Would there be ways to organize teams? Will there be capturable areas? Will the fight ever end? etc. etc. etc.
So with that said I wish you luck on working on this idea. Who knows, one day it might be put into effect. But for now I'll sign this idea as a 'Maybe, With Some Work'

i think a good start would be a new title chain and obviously the balth faction

keep it basic, since it is a huge arena having an overkill of faction would make it to farmable, 6 faction per kill would probably be about right.

i would imagine either a special area such as AB or maybe even an outpost

nothing past the equivilent of RA syncing

i assume you mean like the equivilent of holding towns from AB battles? i guess possibly, maybe something a bit neater like having statues in towns devoted to the specific guild who hold records for most ::insert new campaign "faction" here:: faction earned

Searing and Sandstorm anyone?
Last man standing? emm.. no way you will end up with 40 55 monks....
New title? no way on this goddam game should tehre be any new titles.
Last point.. there is NO need for a nw arena, if you want big battles go play another game, GW is dieing anyways so there not going to spend time changing to much.

they've hinted at major content updates <hard mode> and there is a confirm on chapter four, so your logic of homeostasis seems lacking

What the OP is suggesting is similar to WoW's Alterac Valley...40 players on each team, randomly selected, fighting on a freaking enormous map (15 minutes+ of running from one end to the other) to push the enemy back and kill a certain NPC.
There, the teams CAN be random, or you can form a group and wait. But if you form a group, your wait is longer because there needs to be a number of spaces large enough to accommodate your entire group. In WoW, the wait could be several hours.
All in all, one match can last over 8 hours. On my old computer, by the time I reached the "big fight," I was frozen and ended up dying before I could do anything due to all the crap going on. When someone left, the next person waiting in the queue was selected to join in.
So yes, this idea has three problems: Anet's server bandwidth, players' computers (since a lot care only to meet the recommended requirements), and the ability to swap in a new player when another one leaves. All in all, I can say that Alterac Valley was fun when I didn't freeze up, so if Anet actually managed to do this well, I would be all for it.
Just one thing to end my post:

When Billiard visited Anet for Community Day, they said that contrary to popular belief, GW's playerbase was actually growing. Whether or not you all believe that, well, that's not something I can change
